Dena was born in California, but moved to Texas as soon as she could. So, she’ll let you know she is a Texan at heart. She joined our practice in August of 2006 after leaving Texas where she had been practicing as a nurse midwife and was a faculty member with the University of Texas Medical School.
She received her BS degree in Nursing at Prairie View A&M in 1997. She then went on to receive her Masters of Science in Nursing from the University of Texas medical branch in Galveston, TX in 2001. She received her certification as a nurse midwife in June of 2001.
Currently Dena is also a faculty member at BYU where she is teaching in the College of Nursing.
She is the mother of four teenagers, the youngest being twin boys. She is an avid scuba diver and loves to do anything with the water. Dena also loves to dance, sing, ride horses, read and play board games.
Dena became a nurse midwife because she wanted to make a difference to women during one of the most blessed events in their lives. She believes in a woman’s right to labor and deliver the way they want to and supports women in whatever choice they make.
We are very excited to have Dena with us!
